KDKA Guide: Light Up Night 2007

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Happy Holidays Pittsburgh! The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership is kicking off the season with Light Up Night on November 16th. KDKA has your guide to everything you need to know to "Experience the Holiday Season Downtown."

The Golden Triangle will be transformed into a winter wonderland and host thousands of people.  But, don't let the construction fool you… officials say the area will be ready.  Streets will be closed for the festivities and there will be changes in transportation. Here is what you need to know:

Street Closures on Thursday, Nov. 15
7 p.m.
--New Penn Avenue (Starting at Two Gateway Center to Commonwealth Place)
--Liberty  Eastbound/Westbound (Stanwix to Commonwealth)
Street Closures on Light Up Night, Friday, Nov. 16
1 - 9 p.m.
--All Market Square side streets (Market Square, Graeme, McMasters Way and Delray between Forbes and Liberty)
--
Forbes Avenue between Wood Street and Stanwix Street

6 - 9 p.m.
--Liberty Avenue from Fifth Avenue Extension to Stanwix Street
--
Penn Avenue from Cecil Way to Stanwix Street
--Stanwix Street between Stanwix Street Garage and Fourth Avenue (The Stanwix Garage will remain open)

6 - 8:30 p.m.
--Smithfield Street between Fifth Avenue and Fourth Avenue

Detours:  On Thursday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 16, the Port Authority buses will be detoured.  Visit the Port Authority website for a complete listing.

The city-owned parking garages and many Alco operated garages will have free parking on the following dates to accommodate shopping needs.

  • Friday, Nov. 23
  • Saturday, Nov. 24
  • Saturday, Dec. 1
  • Saturday, Dec. 8
  • Saturday, Dec. 15
  • Saturday, Dec. 22
  • Here is a  list of participating garages.
 

Come downtown and usher in the holiday season in true Pittsburgh fashion. Here are several of the Light Up Night Events!

-Macy's Fireworks Finale, Gateway Center Corridor
9 p.m. - The fireworks will be set to holiday music.

-Winter Wonderland and Santa Spectacular
Gateway Plaza Winter Wonderland: 3-7 p.m.
Santa Spectacular presented by Toyota Tundra: 6:15-7 p.m. with a fireworks finale at 7 p.m. CBS Radio presents Santa's Winter Wonderland with booths and lots of goodies.

    -The Rink @ PPG Plaza
    The Rink will open at 5 p.m.

Throughout the night there will be food, live music, street performers, a scavenger hunt and children's games.
