Brackenridge Death Believed To Be Suspicious

BRACKENRIDGE (KDKA) ― Autopsy results haven't been released yet after a Brackenridge woman was found dead last week.

A fisherman spotted the body of Kelly Nicole Smith, 27, in the Allegheny River in Lower Burrell. She disappeared last Thursday.

Smith's funeral is scheduled for tomorrow. Smith leaves behind a 4-year-old son and a 12-year-old stepdaughter.

Her mother, Karen Godfrey, and her husband Jason Smith spoke to KDKA's Mary Berecky.

"Well, the hardest part is of course realizing that I'm never going to see her again," she said. "And the other hardest part is watching her little boy and he doesn't understand where his mommy is."

Smith says he tried reaching his wife on her cell phone but was unsuccessful.

"I called around, I called her friends and nobody heard from her and everybody knew immediately something was wrong because she always talked to somebody," he said.

Westmoreland County detectives believe Smith's death is suspicious. The results of her autopsy have not been released.
