Serial Rape Suspect Waives Preliminary Hearing
FOREST HILLS (KDKA) ―
Police arrested Keith Wood, of Stanton Heights, back in February for allegedly breaking into a Forest Hills home and raping a woman in the summer of 2000.
He was scheduled to be in court today, but at the last minute decided to waive the hearing.
Four of the victims were set to testify at the hearing.
"I feel bad for the ladies, and I'm innocent," Wood told KDKA today as he was leaving the magistrate's office.
At the time of his arrest, police said they believed Wood was the man known as the "East End Rapist," who is linked to the rapes of six women in the city's eastern neighborhoods and suburbs starting in 1988 through 2001.
Investigators said the profile is the same in each case, with the suspect entering through unlocked doors and windows.
Authorities say DNA has also connected Wood to four additional rapes. Those include one in Oakland and another in Squirrel Hill, both happened in 2000, as well as two others in Edgewood and Swissvale, officials report.
