Local Injured Soldier To Get High Tech Home

ROSS TWP. (KDKA) ― A local solider seriously injured in Iraq could easily have given up but he didn't.

Today, the community that supported him turned out at a special groundbreaking for James Fair's new Ross Township state-of the-art home.

Many people have donated money and materials since KDKA first brought you Fair's story.

Thanks to those donations and ones by Duquesne Light and the advocacy group Homes for our Troops, Fair, who lost both arms, his sight and mobility will have a high-tech home built on the donated land.

The home will be a test for new technology to help other injured veterans.

What Fair really wants is something that many take for granted.

"My independence back… that's the main thing," said Fair.

The technology for the house is not available just yet.

It has to be developed.

That is where CMU and Pitt come into play.

Those universities and the people at Blue Roof Technologies will make the adaptations that Fair will test and live with to help future veterans.
