For one native Pittsburgher who is now a reporter in Roanoke, Virginia, Monday's shootings happened in a place she knows very well.
Holly Pietrzak works as a reporter for WDBJ-TV at their Bureau in Blacksburg.
Even though Pietrzak says she was home in Pittsburgh during the horrific shootings that didn't stop her from working.
She says that the community is very shocked and hurt by the shootings.
Since a student wreaked havoc on the community she covers, Pietrazak has been on the phone non-stop with her many contacts back in Blacksburg. And one of those calls came from a police officer who was on the scene after the shootings.
"The police officer had called me," Pietrzak tells KDKA. "He said, 'Holly, what bothered me the most is that we're bringing out people who are injured, but the people who are dead, who didn't make it, who are killed inside, parents are calling their children and their cell phones are right next to them, ringing.'"
Pietrzak says she also covered last year's shooting on the Virginia Tech campus.
