People living in Beaver County say they are tired of waking up to find the stuff all over their things.
People living in Beaver County say they are tired of waking up to find the stuff all over their things.
They also say they're worried about their health.
They are now taking their complaints to company officials.
The primary source of the soot appears to be coming from the nearby First Energy power plant in Beaver County.
Homeowners are angered they have to deal with it time and time again.
"I live close to the plant, within a mile and Shippingport gets fallout almost daily - at least 5 days a week," said Ralph Hysong, of Raccoon Township.
Besides the damage to their property, people are wondering if the soot is toxic and could it be threatening their gardens and the health of their livestock.
"I've got 87 1/2 acres, livestock, garden, hay fields and all the house, my vehicles all that were covered," said bob Vanucci, of Raccoon Township. "Upon the square foot value I'd say roughly about 60 percent of a square foot was covered with the dropping from that fallout."
The DEP has stepped in to reassure residents that the soot isn't toxic. Meantime, the company is still investigating what caused its release.
For now, First Energy has pledged to clean up the mess.
