Serial Rape Case Suspect Will Stand Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The man accused of terrorizing women in several East End neighborhoods during the summers of 2000 and 2001 was in court this morning facing one of his accusers.

Last week, police arrested 49-year-old Keith Wood at his Stanton Heights home.

Now he is facing multiple charges including rape, sexual assault, and terroristic threats. He will be held for trial.

Authorities say they believe Wood is the man suspected of being the "East End Rapist."

Investigators say they used DNA to link the suspect to the July 2000 rape of a woman in the city's Edgewood neighborhood.

The woman testified today in court.

Police took a DNA sample from the victim after the crime. Then, in 2005, with the help of a new law, a DNA sample was taken from Wood while he was in jail for burglary.

Investigators say the made a positive match 16 months later.

Authorities say this case has taken so long to unfold because of a huge backlog of DNA case.

Officials say Wood is believed to be connected to seven other rape case.

Police say more DNA tests are being completed in those cases.
