Casino Planning Commission Vote Could Come Today
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The developer of Pittsburgh's Majestic Star Casino could break ground on the North Shore by month's end.
That's if Don Barden gets a key vote this afternoon by the city's Planning Commission.
The commission meets at 2 p.m.
On their agenda, a vote on the steel framework and the casino Barden wants to put between the Carnegie Science Center and the West End Bridge.
If approved, the planning commission will issue a building permit for the casino.
Barden would still need to obtain environmental permits from the state but, if all goes smoothly, construction could get started on the casino by the end of this month or early September.
Barden also needs approval for the casino's architecture, building, landscaping as well as lighting and signage.
Barden anticipates about a 14-month build time for the casino.
If all continues to go well, the casino could open as early as October 2008.
