The investigation continues today into the violent shooting death of a deli clerk in Mt. Oliver during what officials say was an attempted robbery.
On Sunday, 28-year-old Jamal Mouzaffar, a native of Syria, was found wounded on the floor of a Mt. Oliver deli.
According to police, the shooting happened sometime before 9am at the A & E Deli Food Mart on Brownsville Road.
"He had his hands up in the air, and he opened the cash register to give the money," says the victim's aunt, Marcy Mouzaffar. "His hands were raised, he was surrendering, and the person just shot him, in cold blood, and he was giving the money."
Mouzaffar was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Now, police are continuing their search for a suspect. They say they are hoping surveillance video will help lead them to a suspect.
Officials describe the suspect as 6 feet tall, and wearing a black hoody and black pants.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
Meanwhile, the victim's family says Mouzaffer was in the United States to receive medical treatment and a new prosthetic leg.
"He came to this country for help, and you go home not breathing. It doesn't make sense," says Mouzaffer's aunt. "But I pray that police find who did this because I'll tell you one thing, I won't rest until they find out who did it and bring them to justice."
An autopsy is scheduled for today.
