Pittsburgh Police Nab City's No. 1 Tagger

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pittsburgh's most-wanted graffiti vandal has been arrested – again.

Daniel Montano, 21, of Highland Park, has been charged with 100 counts of graffiti vandalism. Police estimate he created $500,000 worth of damage.

Detective Daniel Sullivan says Montano was arrested back in March and charged with felony criminal mishchief. He was released from the Allegheny County Jail after paying a $1,001 fine.

According to investigators, he used variations of "MFONE" as his nickname. Of all the taggers in the city, police put Montano in a special category.

"He's the top one. He's No. 1 in the city and he's expected to be the No. 1 in the nation at this time for prosecution," Sullivan said.

Police say they could see that Montano is a talented artist, but they can't understand why he uses his talents toward destructive ends.
