Charlie Batch Helps Kickoff Mentoring Day
HOMESTEAD (KDKA) ―
Steelers Quarterback Charlie Batch returned to his old school, Barrett Elementary in Homestead, where he helped kickoff "Thank Your Mentor Day."
With his Best of the Batch Foundation, Batch has stressed to area kids the importance of having both good attendance and good grades.
Today he gave incentives for students to become part of his club a program that rewards top students with a trip to see either the circus or Disney on Ice.
"They learn to trust and when they have something to encourage them or a little incentive then it just makes them work hard, it shows that somebody cares," Batch said.
Batch hopes he can help students flourish both academically and socially. He prides himself on being a spokesperson for the cause of mentoring.
"You know we want to challenge people and encourage them to come out and be mentors because somebody helped you along the way, you didn't do this by yourself," he said.
