CO Suspected In Penn Hills Man's Death

PENN HILLS (KDKA) ― Darwood Christian of Penn Hills says his furnace wasn't working so his family turned the gas stove on to keep warm; now his son is dead and his wife is hospitalized in an apparent case of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Christian says he had an unbearable headache and couldn't move when he woke up inside his house along Westwood Road this morning.

"My wife was laying beside me," Christian told KDKA. "She was making these weird noises with her eyes open."

He called his son, James; but it was too late. The 23-year-old man succumbed to what officials are calling acute carbon monoxide poisoning.

When paramedics arrived, the home had a massive buildup of gas inside.

Christian says he had no idea there was a leak.

Stay with KDKA for more details.
