Project To Close Blvd. Of Allies Bridge

MORE: PennDOT Detour Details

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Thousands of drivers are expected to feel the impact starting later tonight when a major project begins on the Boulevard of the Allies Bridge.

PennDOT says crews will begin work tonight to tear down that bridge that runs over Forbes Avenue.

Officials say the work is set to start tonight at 11 p.m. Crews are scheduled to close the outbound side of the Boulevard of the Allies east of the Parkway East.

Officials say that will last through November.

"A lot of work can happen now," said PennDOT executive Dan Cessna. "When the good weather is here in the summer, the concrete work will be occurring, and we can get the project done and back open by the end of the year."

Another closure that will go along with that work includes the shutting down of Forbes Avenue for four weekends.

Officials say one of those weekends will come as soon as this weekend. The Forbes Avenue closure is set to begin this Friday at 10 p.m. and run through Monday at 6 a.m. between the Birmingham Bridge and Craft Avenue.

According to officials, their will be no restrictions inbound.
