Boscov's To Occupy Some Former Kaufmann's Stores
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Soon to be vacated Kaufmann's stores in the Monroeville and South Hills Village Malls are set to become Boscov's.
Today, the Reading based department store announced it has agreed to acquire 10 mall locations from Federated Department Stores.
Right now, the two Kaufmann's stores in the Monroeville and South Hills Village malls are undergoing clearance sales.
Kaufmann's is being phased out because Cincinnati-based Federated Department Stores, which already owned the Macy's chain, bought Kaufmann's last year.
Many local malls have both Kaufmann's and Macy's and that means the company is in the process of divesting overlapping locations.
The future of the Macy's store at Ross Park Mall is still up in the air.
The Post-Gazette reports that Federated decided to convert the larger Kaufmann's store in Ross Park to a Macy's later this year.
Boscov's already operates stores in Beaver, Butler and Johnstown.
