'Bodies' Exhibit Opens Soon At SportsWorks
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
An exhibit that has attracted crowds and stirred controversy around the world will soon be on display in Pittsburgh.
"Bodies
An Exhibition" opens October 8th at the Carnegie Science Center's SportsWorks complex on the North Shore.
Preparations are well underway for the display. Exhibits inside SportsWorks have been moved to other areas of the building to make room for the 13,000 square feet needed for "Bodies."
There are nine galleries, beginning with the skeletal system. Everything about the bodies is real except the eyeballs which can't be preserved.
The 15 male and female corpses on display are unclaimed bodies from China. Many of them are displayed in various poses. Those are two of the reasons some people object to the exhibit.
"It is really the most incredible way to learn about our bodies and how to take care of this body that we have and to do the things we need to encourage a healthy lifestyle and I don't know if there is a more impactful way to do that I right here in this exhibit," Ron Baillie, of the Carnegie Science Center, said.
Baillie says he encourages skeptics of the exhibit to come see it and make their own decisions. The exhibit will be on display through May 4th.
