Black & Gold Bash Leaves Sellers Asking Questions

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A Black and Gold Bash scheduled for today was abruptly cancelled.

And now, one man wants the State Attorney General to get involved.

The fundraising bash was supposed to be held Sunday at the Moutaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort.

Ticket sellers like Jennifer Tatrai are now hearing the resort pulled the plug because the sponsoring organization, Hope Cancer Treatment, failed to present certification as a charitable organization.

Tickets were sold for $75 a piece and the event boasted incentives to sellers, such as a $1,000 Early Bird drawing for every 10 tickets sold and a $5,000 drawing for every 20 tickets sold.

Jeff Buckley, who also sold tickets, wants to know if the prizes ever existed.

"It all looks legitimate. There's Miller Light labels on the thing and a car dealership. It kind of makes you think, should I ever bother selling tickets or helping out," said Buckley.

And to make matters worse, the checks were already cashed within days of the event being cancelled.

"We don't know what's happening yet. But I'm hoping that the State's Attorney General or somebody can get involved in this. Because it's a large some of money when you add it all up, and it's just potentially gone," he said.

The Steelers have no ties with the Black and Gold bash.

However, the event's website used to show photos of former Steelers and prizes associated with the team.

Now all the site says is the event is cancelled.

Also, no one answers the phone number that used to be posted.
