CORAOPOLIS (KDKA) ―
He has given so much serving his country, and today a local company, as well as a national veteran's organization, wants to help him raise the money to build a home.
Back in November of 2003, Army Specialist James Fair, 25, of Coraopolis, was completely blinded after a bomb detonation. He also lost both his hands and was left with shrapnel throughout his body causing injuries to his right leg and a traumatic brain injury.
But, even though, his body was broken, his soldier's sprit was not.
"You have to take it one day at a time," he says. "Try to cope with it. The most important thing is not feel sorry for yourself."
And now several groups are taking on the goal of building a home for Fair. The objective is to build a home that will make life easier for the soldier and help him to regain his independence.
Duquesne Light, Homes For Our Troops, and organizers of the upcoming Home and Garden show have made it their goal to build Fair's new home.
"It means a lot. He deserves everything he can get," says his mother, Lonnie Mosco.
Fair says he eventually wants to go to Pitt to become a psychologist for disabled children.
"I love kids," he says. "I feel like I can know what they are going through. I'm going through the same thing pretty much."
Donations for Fair's new home will be taken at the Home and Garden Show.
