Style Sisters: Tips To Pick A Holiday Outfit

ROBINSON TWP. (KDKA) ― If you're trying to figure out what to wear for the holidays but you don't have the time or money for a whole new outfit, the Style Sisters have you covered.

The professional shoppers show how to make shopping for a holiday outfit quick and easy.

First, Alison Gannon says start with what you already have -- like "the little black dress".

"You can make it look brand new this year if pair it with colored tights," said Alison.  "They're very hip, very in and they look very holiday-ish."

And they're less than $10 a pair.

"Another thing she could do with this is belt it," added Alison.  "You could wear a big wide belt you could sling it low around the hips or do it tight around the waist… and again can do a shiny sparkly belt or patent leather belt."

Another tip: try a new spin on old jewelry.

"It's never been a better time to raid your mom's closet, even your grandma's closet to find some really cool fashion pieces," said Alison.  "We have necklaces that are layered over and over to make a trendy almost cuff."

Another classic already in the closet is black pants.

Elizabeth Casey paired it with a sparkly shirt and this wrap.

"It's velvet and satin has this lovely fringe and it really does dress you up," said Elizabeth.  "And it's functional -- it does keep you warm as well."

The wrap is also versatile.

It can be worn different ways and with different outfits for completely new looks… all for $58 at Macy's at the Mall at Robinson.

When you're choosing what to wear with your basics, Shannon Kosko says the stores are making it easy for you.

"I think the shirt's wonderful because we get layered effect, have camisole effect, have satin belt, and it all came together," said Shannon.  "it takes the guesswork out of it. "

"I also enjoy the mix of fabrics -- satin, lace, brocade with denim," said Alison.  "It's all okay.  You don't have to have a rugged leather bag because you are wearing denim. Spruce it up."

But your look is not complete without holiday make-up.

Anne Sweeney says smoky eyes and nude lips are the hot look this season.

"The key to the smoky eye is the smudging," said Anne.  "So when you put on eye liner or shadow at lash line, your really need to blend that in and that's what gives the illusion of the smokiness."

Elizabeth, who's also a make-up artist, starts with skin-colored base on the eyes to hold the make-up all night.

Then, she adds silver at the base of her lashes to the crease of her eye.

"Now, I'm going to add a little bit of black.  This is going to be instant drama and it's going to be concentrated into her lash line," said Elizabeth.  "We're going to extend it out and up a bit to give her that nice wide-eyed doe look.  I took the ebony liner that we put at her lash line and I blended it up… used a dry brush, blending, blending blending.  So far, she has 2 colors on her lids -- that's it."

For the nude lips, she used a lip liner, then blended it into the lips and topped it off with a gloss from "benefit" make up line.

"This gloss has shimmer in it," she said.  "It does.  You look beautiful - holiday perfect."

The "Style Sister Steal" for this holiday is a handmade pair of earrings by local artist Megan Gillis for only $25.
