The Style Sisters help give Carolyn Colenbrander a jeans makeover

Shopping for jeans can be a daunting task for most women.
Carolyn Colenbrander knows first-hand that finding that perfect pair isn't easy. "I have at least 9 pairs of jeans in my closet ranging anywhere from $20 to $150," Colenbrander explains, "and there's nights that I want to go out and I'll try on every pair in my closet and I'm not happy with any of them!"
To help Colenbrander find the right jeans for her, the Style Sisters stepped in.
Their first order of business was getting Colenbrander to ditch her so-called "mom jeans."
"A mom jean is a jean with a higher rise... something that hits around your belly button," Style Sister Anne Sweeney explains. Sweeney says while most women thing this type of jean is covering their stomach, they're actually accentuating it.
As part of Colenbrander's jeans makeover, the sisters first explain what's wrong with her current pair. They say the jeans have unflattering pockets, a dated wash, they're too short and cut too generously.
"You have to know your body," explains Style Sister Shannon Kosko, "and I think fit is the biggest mistake. Women are buying their jeans too big."
The sisters selected three pairs of jeans for Colenbrander to try on ranging in price from $29.50 at Old Navy to a $205 pair of Y? jeans by Morrissey. In the mid-price range, Colenbrander tried an $85 pair from Pure Color.
"Stylish doesn't mean expensive," assures Elizabeth Casey.
"What sets a higher priced pair of jeans apart comes down to a few things... the quality of the denim, workmanship and fit," Casey adds.
Each pair had several things in common: they're all lower rise cutting out the bulk through the mid-section; they are all long jeans; and none has a tapered leg. "They'll either be a straight cut or a boot cut which helps elongate the figure," Sweeney adds.
After trying each pair, the Style Sisters agreed that the mid-priced jeans by Pure Color are the best fit for Colenbrander for several reasons: the rise and the fit.
"I love the jeans," Colenbrander told the Style Sisters. "I had so much fun and I couldn't have done it without you."
