The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to make the playoffs this season and Mike Tomlin addressed the media Tuesday afternoon about it.
During the press conference, Tomlin said he would much rather be preparing for a game even with all the snow flakes, than be closing up shop for the season.
He is currently meeting with the players and wants to talk with each and every man about the things that went well this season.
In retrospect, a lot of things did go well for the Steelers this season despite missing the playoffs again in the season following a Super Bowl victory.
At one point the team was 6-2, before losing five in a row and rallying to finish 9-7.
On the positive side, Ben Roethlisberger threw for over 4,000 yards, Rashard Mendenhall rushed for over 1,000 yards and Santonio Holmes and Hines Ward went over 1,000 yards receiving.
That's never happened before.
Offensively, the Steelers were able to perform pretty well and they put points on the board in bunches at times.
At the same time, there were the key losses and you can talk about the five-game losing streak.
Tomlin said the biggest problem was not the losing streak, but that they were 2-4 against division rivals overall and 0-3 against them in that five-game stretch.
Tomlin said that if your are going to succeed in the NFL you must perform well against the teams in your division
For now, the players will be meeting with the coach later today and others will meet with him later in the week to talk about how to put things together for next season.
It has already been determined that the Steelers will have the 18th pick in the upcoming draft and they will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong until that time.
