Hines Ward Goes Back To School For Day

FREEDOM (KDKA) ― One lucky area student got to show up at school like a major celebrity Tuesday.

David Grove was met at his house by Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward before school. Grove was this year's winner of the "NFL Take a Player to School" contest through the JC Penney Afterschool Fund.

Ward and Grove arrived at the Freedom Middle School in a limo. During the school day, Ward visited the principal's office and later talked to the entire eighth grade class about good health.

As part of the NFL's Play 60 campaign, that also helped kickoff the NFL season at Point State Park, Ward also led a physical education session for an hour with Grove's class of 25 kids.

During the final activity, Ward tossed passes to the kids. He told them he wanted to see their best touchdown dance and that he may use one of them in the team's next game against the Denver Broncos on Monday Nov. 9.

Grove is one of 34 kids around the country to be selected in the contest. The school will also receive a donation from the NFL and JC Penney for their in-school and after school fitness programs.

In addition the NFL and Wilson will donate fitness equipment to the school.
