Troy Polamalu Returns To Practice Field

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pro Bowl Safety Troy Polamalu finally returned to the practice field.

He sat out most of training camp with a bad hamstring. He suffered the injury in the weeks leading up to camp.

Polamalu didn't have a heavy workout, but he was active and with his teammates for the first time since the run test that opened training camp in Latrobe.

The consensus from the Steelers on Polamalu's injury seems to be that they're taking a cautious approach to make sure the injury is completely healed.

He's going to take things easy this week, adding more each day as long as his hamstring responds.

Polamalu is not ruling out playing against Minnesota for now.

"I want to play against Houston you know, I want to be smart on this hamstring and not injure it worse," says Polamalu, "but I also want to be physically prepared to play you know and I want to get some reps and play against Minnesota."

The game against Houston is the season opener at Heinz Field.

Justin Hartwig will start at center this weekend.
