Steelers Fans Gather At Heinz Field For Draft Day

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― It was a day of much anticipation as the Steelers nation waited to find out their favorite football team's top draft pick.

But when the Steelers selection was finally announced many fans were surprised by the choice of running back Rashard Mendenhall, from Illinois.

"That's why I'm not a coach, I'd have never picked another running back," said one fan watching the Draft at Heinz Field. "We need someone to block for these guys as it is."

Other fans thought the team would go a different way.

"I thought they would go offensive line, but he's a good back," said another fan.

"It's probably the best talent left on the board, but we don't need a back," said another fan.

Meanwhile, for fans who gathered at Heinz Field it was also a day of fun.

The Steelers held the family-friendly 2008 Fan Blitz today complete with appearances by mascot Steely McBeam, games, autographs and prizes.
