Bye Week Gives Steelers Chance To Work Out Kinks

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Even though the Steelers have a bye this week, they have still gone to work and will do so again on New Years Day.

Game planning is not an issue this week. What the bye gives them is a chance to work on some self-inflicted mistakes.

It also gives this team a needed rest from physical contact for a good 10 days.

That's good news for guys like James Harrison, Ryan Clark and Ben Roethlisberger who again did not practice or speak about his latest concussion.

Roethlisberger played a little soft toss with Quarterback Coach Ken Anderson.

The biggest news of the day was Jeff Reed's hair color change to bleach blonde.

Meanwhile, it's just a week of working out the kinks.

"Focusing on the little things, focus on little details, just shoring up some stuff, making corrections from this past game," Max Starks said. "We're just looking at things from past that we may have been questioning on and kind of just honing up those small little details and just resting and relaxing your body."

The Steelers know they will play one of three teams - the Colts, Chargers or the Miami Dolphins which would mark the return of Joey Porter.

"Joey's a great friend of all of ours, the guys that were here. He's a great guy," Nate Washington said. "We wouldn't trade him for the world but you know it's just unfortunate that he's not with us anymore but if we have to run across him then we have to run across him.

"I don't think it matters who we play right now, you know. I don't think we were rooting for any one team. We're just coming out and trying to get better to face whoever we have to face," he added.

Miami will be at home this wildcard weekend to meet the Baltimore Ravens who are one of the hottest teams entering the postseason.

The other two go head to head out west as No. 5 seed Indianapolis visits Qualcomm Stadium and the No. 4 seeded San Diego Chargers.
