Tomlin Looks Ahead To Bengals, Outlines Injuries

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― When it comes to the officiating in last Sunday's game, Mike Tomlin wouldn't talk about it then, and he wouldn't talk about it today either.

At his weekly press conference, Tomlin would only say the Steelers were able to squeeze out a win, despite the officiating.

Yesterday, one of the referees admitted he blew a call at the very end of the game, which negated a touchdown by safety Troy Polamalu.

Even without that touchdown, the Steelers beat the San Diego Chargers 11-10, the first 11-10 score in NFL history.

But the Steelers had 13 penalties in the game, something Tomlin does not want to repeat.

Tomlin said penalties "can negate production."

He did however, praise the play of Willie Parker, Ben Roethlisberger, and the Steelers' defense, for holding the Chargers to just 10 points in the game.

As for the injury update, Tomlin said the good news is, no one new has been added to the list.

He characterized the injuries of key players such as Bryant McFadden, Deshea Townsend, and Marvel Smith as status quo.

He did announce that tight end Heath Miller could possibly return this Thursday night, but it would be a game day decision.

The Steelers have a quick turnaround this week.

They host the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday night.

The Bengals went all the way through week 8 without a win.

In week 9, they got their first and only win of the season, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This past Sunday, their game against the Philadelphia Eagles resulted in a 13-13 tie, after neither team was able to score during the overtime period.

Tomlin says the Bengals are "a team in transition," shaking the rust off and doing much better than they were in the beginning of the season.

He praised the play of running back Cedric Benson and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

He also said the Bengals defense appears to be applying much more pressure in recent weeks.

With less than a week between games, "we're closing in on 48 hours before kickoff," Tomlin said, adding "we're doing the best we can to prepare ourselves."
