After a three-game sweep of the Ravens last season, the Steelers suffered a third consecutive loss this season at the hands of Baltimore Sunday evening.
The Steelers were forced to start third-string quarterback Dennis Dixon after both Ben Roethlisberger and Charlie Batch went down with injuries in last week's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Dixon threw a touchdown pass in the second quarter, ran for another in the fourth quarter, but threw an interception in overtime that led to a field goal - giving the Ravens the 20-17 victory.
The Steelers defense also gave up several big plays at key times.
Baltimore scored first in the first quarter with a 2-yard run by Willis McGahee.
However, the Steelers tied it up in the second quarter when Dixon threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes.
Before halftime, the Ravens took at 14-7 lead when Joe Flacco hit Derrick Mason with a 10-yard touchdown pass.
After halftime, Jeff Reed pulled the Steelers closer with a 44-yard field goal to make it 14-10.
The Steelers then took a 17-14 lead on Dixon's 24-yard run to the endzone for a touchdown.
The Ravens were able to tie it up though as the end of the fourth quarter neared when Billy Cundiff kicked a 24-yard field goal sending the game into overtime.
In the extra session, Dixon's lone turnover an interception by Ravens' rookie Paul Kruger - set up Cundiff's 29-yard field goal with 6:42 left in overtime, to win the game.
Dixon went 12 for 26 for 145 yards, and Rashard Mendenhall gained 95 yards on 24 carries.
Flacco completed 23 of 35 passes for 289 yards and a touchdown to keep Baltimore in the thick of the playoff hunt.
The third straight defeat marks the longest skid for the Steelers since a three-game run in 2006.
The Steelers will now head back to Pittsburgh for a game at Heinz Field Sunday against the Oakland Raiders at 1 p.m.
