Polamalu Will Start, Backup QB Still Undetermined

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin held his final news conference of the pre-season this afternoon on the South Side.

He said Troy Polamalu will play with the first unit this Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.

Tomlin says expect the starters to play the first quarter on both sides of the ball.

The question came up who will be the backup quarterback when the regular season starts because Charlie Batch was sidelined with a broken collar bone in the first pre-season game.

"We'll cross that bridge after this performance," said Tomlin. "That's a decision we have to make at an appropriate time. I think we need to gather all the information based on the quality of play and the health of Charlie – in terms of what direction we'll go in and hold our cards until necessary in regards to that."

Game time is Thursday at 7 p.m. at Heinz Field
