Rooney Prepares To Become Abassador To Ireland

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― While the Steelers get set to prepare for another season, one member of the team is getting ready to take on a new adventure.

Steelers Owner Dan Rooney is in Washington, D.C. today to prepare to become the US ambassador to Ireland.

Rooney will meet with US Senator Bob Casey today. His nomination hearing is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

President Barack Obama appointed Rooney as the next ambassador to Ireland in March.

Because of his new post, Rooney will have to give up all of his team duties.

He will leave for Ireland during Steelers training camp and will likely miss most of the 2009 season.

Before Rooney officially takes on his new position, the US Senate must first approve his nomination.
