With the Steelers set to kick off the regular season against the Houston Texas this Sunday at Heinz Field, the team has announced its new captains for the year ahead.
For the first time, starting quarterback Ben Roethliseberger is among the team captains; and that's not the only first.
Another first-timer, Kicker Jeff Reed will lead the special teams.
Reed told
Steelers.com that he's honored to be named a captain. "It's tougher for a kicker or punter to be in a situation like that. It shows a lot of respect from my teammates, so it's a great feeling."
Roethlisberger and Reed join Wide Receiver Hines Ward, who was named the team's offensive captain for the fourth time, and James Farrior, who was named the defensive captain for the fifth time.
With his team's regular season set to start in less than a week, Head Coach Mike Tomlin will hold his first news conference of the year at noon.
