Jeff Reed Speaks Out On North Shore Incident

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Three days after being arrested outside a North Shore bar, Steelers kicker Jeff Reed spoke publicly about the incident.

The day after he was arrested, Don Henderson, Reed's agent, told the Post-Gazette, they plan to fight the charges.

Reed said on Wednesday that statement was not authorized.

"I'm not going to answer any questions about it. I told my agent to keep his mouth shut because he doesn't know what's going on," he said. "So if you guys ask him, I told him the same thing."

The Steelers are doing their best to make sure this incident doesn't affect their preparation for Sunday's game against the 6-0 Minnesota Vikings.

"It's one of those situations where you can call it a distraction all you want. I've apologized to the community and to this team and to this organization because that's very important to me and my family," Reed said.

"It's a bit embarrassing to be on the news like that, but at the same time, my job is to kick field goals and extra points and kick off for this team and I will."

Reed certainly isn't the first NFL player to run afoul of the law and he says he's received nothing but support from his teammates.

"All of them tell me to, 'Keep my head up,' 'Don't worry about it,' 'We need you,' that keeps me going," he said.
