Rooneys Release Statement On Team Ownership

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney and Steelers President Art Rooney II are speaking out.

On Thursday, four Rooney brothers turned down an offer from billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller to buy a major stake in the team. Druckenmiller, in turn, withdrew his bid.

Earlier sources told KDKA' s Alison Morris that Rooney was in the process of putting together an offer for his brothers' 64 percent stake in the team that would have included capital from private investors and would be paid out through December.

In a statement, Dan and Art Rooney II said: "While we would have preferred our bid to have been accepted, we will continue our efforts to maintain the ownership of the Steelers in our family."

It goes on to say: "We hope that further discussions can remain cordial and private and not become a distraction during the football season."

Stay with KDKA for the latest details.
