Senate Confirms Rooney As Ambassador To Ireland

WASHINGTON (KDKA) ― The Senate has confirmed the nomination of Pittsburgh Steelers Chairman Dan Rooney as the United States Ambassador to Ireland.

In a statement, United States Senator Bob Casey, from Pennsylvania, said "I am very pleased that the U.S. Senate has confirmed my friend Dan Rooney to be ambassador to Ireland. This speedy confirmation will allow Dan Rooney to get to work as a bridge between the United States and Ireland. In the Steelers loss the United States gains a humble and knowledgeable public servant."

Confirmation hearings were held on Wednesday in Washington D.C.

Rooney talked about his family's ties to Ireland and his work for Irish causes in the United States.

He is now expected to travel soon to Ireland and present his credentials to the President there.
