Big Ben: One-On-One
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Two more days of summer vacation and it's back to work for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The team reports to training camp on Sunday and the beginning of what they hope will be the road to Super Bowl 43.
KDKA's John Shumway recently talked with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger about the upcoming season and more.
In just the last few weeks he's been horse back riding, camping and fishing in the Rockies and played in a celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe.
Heading into camp, Ben says don't underestimate the value of a year under his belt with Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians.
"We know what each other are thinking a little more now which sometimes is scary you know what he's a genius on offense and there's things that he comes to me and says Ben what do you like and what don't you like," said Roethlisberger. "If I say I don't like something he takes that out and that says a lot. There's a lot more things that I'm comfortable with now."
The evolution of Ben Roethlisberger goes way beyond his new multi-year multi-million dollar contract.
He's moved from a townhouse to a home in the North Hills and has another on a Georgia lake.
Just how much demand is there on Roethlisberger's time?
"There's a lot of it unfortunately," said Roethlisberger. "It's hard to turn certain things down whether it's a scheduling conflict, vacation time whatever it is, my vacation time got cut down this year because I did push myself in a lot of different directions and helped out in a lot of different camps, people, foundations and charities. It's tough you could probably do something everyday and multiple things everyday but you get worn thin real quick so it's kind of tough."
Ben remains very close to his family and slips home to Findlay, Ohio, when he can for some of mom's home cooking.
He's also very supportive of his sister's athletic ventures and his dad leads the team that runs Ben's foundation.
Training camp starts Sunday.
