The Penn State senior who plays the Nittany Lion mascot was arrested on a DUI charge and his status for the Rose Bowl is in doubt, police and school officials said.
James Sheep was pulled over on campus around 3:15 a.m. on Nov. 22, hours before Penn State's 49-18 win over Michigan State, University Police Capt. Bill Moerschbacher said Monday. The officer who made the stop saw that the vehicle was overloaded, with passengers piled onto each other and blocking the driver's view. After determining that Sheep had been drinking, the officer administered sobriety tests and took him to the hospital for blood tests, Moerschbacher said. He was later charged with DUI and summary traffic violations.

Dec 1, 2008 3:31 PM Posted by mvuk Duquesne University sophomore forward David Theis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy/Mercersburg (Pa.) Prep) will miss Wednesday night’s game at nationally ranked Pittsburgh with a bruised kidney.
The 6-7, 230-pounder was diagnosed over the weekend after being hospitalized Saturday and Sunday night at UPMC Mercy Hospital. His status will be re-evaluated at the end of the week.
“The timing of the injury is unfortunate because David has really been coming along as of late,” said Duquesne head coach Ron Everhart. “It a tough break for the team, but our main concern is David’s health and recovery.”
Theis, who scored a career-high seven points in a career-best 27 minutes at No. 7 (AP) Duke on Friday, felt discomfort on the Dukes’ return trip on Friday night. He was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. It is believed the kidney was bruised in a collision during Duquesne’s 79-69 win at South Carolina Upstate on Nov. 25.
Theis, who has seen action all five Duquesne games, is averaging 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in an average of 14.2 minutes per game. He is shooting .538 from the field.
Dec 1, 2008 2:40 PM Posted by mvuk Penguins Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby rank 1-2 in the National Hockey League scoring race heading into this week’s action.
Through 23 games, Malkin leads the NHL with 39 points and Crosby is second with 34.
Malkin also leads the league in assists with 29. Crosby is tied for third in goals with 13 and is third in assists with 21.
Only twice in the past 20 years have teammates finished 1-2 in the NHL scoring race – and both times involved the Penguins. Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr finished 1-2 in 1995-96, and Lemieux and Kevin Stevens were 1-2 in 1991-92.
Since expansion in 1967, other teammate tandems to finish 1-2 include Edmonton’s Wayne Gretzky and Jari Kurri, Edmonton’s Gretzky and Paul Coffey, and Boston’s Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito. Dec 1, 2008 2:38 PM Posted by mvuk The Steelers added depth to their defensive line today when they signed first-year defensive tackle Scott Paxson to their active roster.
Paxson (6-4, 292), a first-year player from Penn State, has played in one game for the Steelers this season — Week 5 at Jacksonville — and spent the rest of the year on the team’s practice squad. Paxson was also a member of the Steelers’ practice squad throughout all of 2007 and part of 2006. He initially signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted rookie in 2006.
Paxson will wear jersey No. 71 for the Steelers.
The Steelers made room on their roster for Paxson by releasing veteran running back Najeh Davenport, who most recently signed with the team on Nov. 27. Davenport had seen action in four games this year with the Steelers, but was not active for Pittsburgh’s Week 13 game at New England.
The Steelers also announced that rookie cornerback Roy Lewis has been re-signed to their practice squad. Lewis has played in one game for the Steelers this season, versus San Diego, after spending most of the year on the team’s practice squad.

LeSean McCoy scored his second touchdown with 52 seconds left to finish off a career-high 183-yard rushing performance, and Pittsburgh beat rival West Virginia 19-15 on Friday to make Cincinnati the Big East champions.
McCoy carried on all but one of the 10 plays on the 59-yard, game-winning touchdown drive in the closing minutes, scoring from the 1.
Pitt (8-3, 4-2 in Big East) rallied from a 15-7 deficit, even though Bill Stull threw two interceptions and lost a fumble and a pair of drives inside the West Virginia 10 ended with no points.
Pat White scored on a 54-yard touchdown run, but West Virginia (7-4, 4-2) lost for the second year in a row in the Backyard Brawl- though this loss didn't hurt nearly as badly as last year's 13-9 defeat that cost the Mountaineers a national title game appearance. White threw incomplete on fourth-and-1 from the Pitt 18 on the final play to end it.
