Wilson Continues Rehab, Could Return Friday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson continues to progress well in his rehab assignment with AAA Indianapolis.

Wilson went 1-3 last night as Indy came back to beat Louisville, 9-7.

In his 3 games, Wilson is hitting .444 and more importantly hasn't re-injured his calf.

The plan is for Wilson to play for Indianapolis again today before joining AA Altoona.

Reportedly, Wilson will join Altoona on Monday because Indianapolis is off and the Pirates want to get Wilson as much game action as possible.

Barring an setbacks, Wilson is scheduled to join the Pirates for Friday's series opener vs. Chicago.

Notes:

  • Former Pirates 1B/OF Craig Wilson continues his attempt on making it back to the big leagues. Wilson hit 2 HR's last night (#4 and #5) and went 3 for 4. For the season, Wilson is hitting .243 for Indianapolis.
  • According to Dejan Kovaceivc of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Pirates president Frank Coonelly has made a formal request to MLB to make the Pirates/Indians a permanent interleague series. Coonelly tells the Post-Gazette that, "I would like to see us playing the Indians on a regular basis. The rivalry between Pittsburgh and Cleveland is as heated as any other interleague rivalry in baseball and the fans in both cities would love to see the Pirates and Indians battle one another on a regular basis. I am making sure that the Pirates' scheduling preferences are understood by Major League Baseball." It's highly unlikely that MLB will honor Coonelly's request to make this a yearly series.
  • With a victory today, the Pirates record would be 22-22, which would mark the latest into a season the club has been at .500 since posting a 30-30 record after 60 games in 2005 (June 11).
