Jack Wilson Close To Returning?

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Finally there appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel for Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson.

Out since the second game of the season with a calf injury, Wilson will begin a rehab assignment this week.

KDKA-TV has been told that Wilson is expecting to begin his long-awaited rehab assignment this Thursday with Class AA Altoona.

The Pirates are hoping that Wilson is able to play between 5-7 games with the Curve before rejoining the Pirates. The earliest Wilson would return to the team would be on Friday, May 23rd.

Wilson injured his calf back on the 2nd game of the season in Atlanta while running out a single to left.

The Pirates have struggled to replace Wilson's offense and defense. Replacements, Brian Bixler, Chris Gomez and Luis Rivas, have all been mostly ineffective.

Trying To Replace Jack Wilson:
Brian Bixler (26 games): .177, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 5 errors

Chris Gomez (25 games): .267, 0 HR, 9 RBI, 3 errors

Luis Rivas (20 games, 2B & SS): .211, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 4 errors
