Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will carry the Olympic Torch during its relay to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympics.
Crosby, a native of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, will carry the flame on Nov. 18 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
"I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to carry the Olympic Flame in my home province of Nova Scotia," Crosby said. "The torch relay will pass through so many communities and hands on the way to Vancouver and I'm privileged to be part of that special group as the Olympic Flame makes its way to Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Games."
Crosby is widely considered to be a key component of the Canadian hockey team at the 2010 Games. A captain has not been named yet for the squad, but some believe that Crosby may get the nod.
Sid the Kid will be one of 12,000 torchbearers who will carry the flame 45,000 kilometers (approximately 27,900 miles) across Canada.
