The Pittsburgh Penguins will put their three-game win streak on the line when they go on the road to take on the New York Islanders Friday afternoon.
In the only other meeting between the clubs this season,
the Penguins won 4-3 in a shootout.
In that game, 2009's first overall draft pick, John Tavares, made his NHL debut and recorded his first career goal and assist.
Sidney Crosby got the Pens on the board early, but the team trailed 2-1 heading to the third period.
Mark Eaton drew the Pens even at 7:19 of the final frame, but Trent Hunter answered just 17 seconds later to put the Islanders back on top.
With just under four minutes to play, Ruslan Fedotenko banged home a rebound to force overtime.
In the shootout, Kris Letang and Crosby scored and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped the only two shooters he faced to give the Pens the win.
Not only do the Penguins have a three-game winning streak, they have won five of their last six games and are continuing to get healthier.
Kris Letang and Tyler Kennedy have been cleared for contact and have been participating in practices, but they will not dress for today's game.
Alex Goligoski and Jay McKee are also skating again and getting closer to returning to the lineup.
For the Islanders, they enter the game nine points behind the Penguins and are currently last in the Atlantic Division.
They have also lost three of their last four games, with the only win in that span coming in overtime against the Toronto Maple Leafs who hold the second worst record in the league.
Dwayne Roloson is expected to be in goal for New York and holds a 2-2-0-1 career record against the Pens with a 2.77 GAA and .914 save percentage.
For Pittsburgh, Brent Johnson will get the start in goal. Johnson holds a 2-6 record with a 4.08 GAA and .876 save percentage against the Islanders in his career.
The puck is set to drop at 2 p.m. today in a rare weekday matinee game and can be seen on FSN Pittsburgh.
