Devils Vs. Penguins Preview

Pittsburgh Penguins Blog

By: Casey Shea
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Pittsburgh Penguins climbed on the broad shoulders of Sidney Crosby Friday night en route to a 3-2 comeback win over the Florida Panthers in a shootout.

However, they won't have much time to celebrate the win as they are back in action tonight against the defending Atlantic Division champion New Jersey Devils.

The Devils (5-3-0) got off to a little bit of a slow start, but have won five of their last six, including the last two games. On Thursday, New Jersey knocked off the rival Rangers 4-2 at Madison Square Garden.

Martin Brodeur (5-3, 2.59 GAA, .907 save percentage) made 29 saves and Zach Parise had two goals and an assist in the game to preserve the Devils' perfect road record at 4-0.

In his career against the Pens, Brodeur is 34-24-4 with a 2.75 GAA and .887 save percentage. He has lost to the Penguins more times than any other team in the league.

Brodeur is chasing history as well. He is one shutout shy of tying legendary netminder Terry Sawchuk for the all-time lead at 103. While it is probable that Brodeur will attain this feat at some point this season, the Penguins will look to make sure it isn't against them.

They will be without star forward Patrick Elias who underwent surgery to remove scar tissue from his groin and has yet to suit up this season.

The Penguins (9-1-0) got off to a very slow start against the Panthers on Friday night and were down 2-0 after the first two periods.

In the third period Sidney Crosby took control, scoring a powerplay goal and his first career shorthanded goal to tie the game with just over three minutes to play. In the shootout, Sid the Kid scored the lone goal to give the Pens the win and the franchise record for wins in October at nine.

Marc-Andre Fleury will be back in goal for the Pens tonight. So far this season, he is a flawless 8-0 with a 1.96 GAA and .926 save percentage.

Against the Devils, Fleury is 8-10-0-4 with a 2.50 GAA and .923 save percentage in his career.

Jordan Staal, who left the ice in the second period with an undisclosed injury against Florida and later returned, is expected to play tonight.

The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. and can be seen on FSN Pittsburgh.
