Out-Of-Town Writers Impressed With Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The Penguins quest for the Stanley Cup has put Pittsburgh and its fans in the national spotlight.
Detroit may be "Hockeytown," but sports writers from across the country and Canada are impressed with the 'Burgh.
"I think it is a bit of a hidden gem because you don't really think of Pittsburgh - at least up in Canada we don't - as a destination, but when you come here, I've really always enjoyed my time here," Paul Hunter, a writer for the Toronto Star, said.
While Pittsburghers may sometimes be too self-critical, folks from out of town come with a different perspective.
"It seems like you guys have done a lot with your downtown area," Dana Wakiji, from Detroit News Online, said. "You know, things that Detroit is trying to do right now, so it's maybe a little bit of a model that we could try to follow over in Detroit because things are starting to look really good."
One Detroit writer is disappointed the Red Wings don't play in Pittsburgh more often because he loves to visit.
"I think it's a vibrant downtown - a lot of great restaurants - I've enjoyed my stay here," Ted Kulfan, a writer for the Detroit News, said.
