Anticipation High For Pens, Tickets Selling Fast
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The anticipation is growing among Penguins fans as the city's hockey team got their short preseason underway tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Pens came up short in the first exhibition game in a shootout, losing 5-4.
But before the puck dropped this evening, tickets for the regular season were selling like hotcakes earlier today. This morning, fans spent hours in line outside Mellon Arena for a chance to buy tickets.
"We've been here for 13 hours, so it's been a long night," said fan Cornelius Harrington. "It was worth it, though."
Officials with the Penguins say 10 games have already been sold out for this season. Those include the Oct. 11 home opener, as well as the Oct. 18, Nov. 22, Nov. 29, Dec. 20, Dec. 27, Jan. 18, Feb 8, March 22 and the April 9 games.
The team says within an hour and a half of going on sale at 10 a.m., more than 20,000 tickets were sold.
"They say that this city bleeds football, the Steelers and everything, but for me, it's always the Pens," said fan, Ryan McCartney.
The Pens have sold out their last 67 home games and some tickets still remain for this season.
