Penguins Triple OT Victory Renews Hope For Fans
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Just one day ago, most fans had resigned themselves to a disappointing end to the Stanley Cup Finals for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
But today, Pittsburgh seems to be a city that is, of course sleepy, but also full of renewed hope.
The Pens' Game 5 triple overtime victory against the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit has put excitement back into the series for many fans.
"I think that the age factor, having to play 6 periods and only one night to recoup, the younger kids may have a little bit of an edge there," said fan, Tim Butler.
In the late night hours of Monday, the Pens were rescued from the very brink of elimination from a goal by Max Talbot. Then, entering into the early morning hours of Tuesday, the Penguins road Marc-Andre Fleury's impervious goaltending during overtime. Finally, just before 1 a.m., Petr Sykora's promised goal gave the Pens a win in Game 5.
"I believe that they're going to make it for one reason only, they're young. They're more hungry," said fan, Steve Mathison, of Mount Washington.
This morning, Penguins fans' may have been running on lack of sleep, but it seems their reenergized hope made up for that. They also said they liked what they saw during the game.
"They're doing a really good job. They really stepped their game up," said fan, Rickisha Edwards, of Mount Washington "They're doing an awesome job now."
Fans also say they are already proud of what the Pens have accomplished.
"I see a lot more confidence in them today than yesterday," said Tim Mayes, of the South Side. "Winning in Detroit was huge because we've got to go back and do it again."
"I like their chances, I like their momentum, but they still have to win another two games. I'm not getting my hopes up," said another fan. "What they've accomplished already makes me happy."
Stay with KDKA for much more on the Penguins!
