Fans Gather At Mellon Arena To Watch Game 5
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Penguins' fans started arriving at Mellon Arena hours ago to watch tonight's Game 5 on the Jumbotron inside.
But with the Pens down 3-1 in the Stanley Cup Finals, even the most dedicated fans are finding it hard to hold onto faith that the Cup will come back to Pittsburgh.
Even though the Penguins are facing elimination, fans are trying their hardest to hold on to hope for a win.
"Anything's possible," Jen Haskins of Brookline said donning her Penguins' jersey.
Haskins says with the game in Detroit, she hopes it won't affect the way the Penguins play.
Mark Harmon, of Beechview, says the win won't come easy.
"It will be hard," Harmon said. "But I think we can do it."
While some fans are keeping the faith, others are admitting that the Red Wings are a very difficult opponent.
"Detroit's a really good team, and I think that's what it's going to come down to," one Penguins fan said.
"I don't think they [the Penguins] are looking good. I think the Wings are a little too experienced," said another.
KDKA's John Shumway reports that he could only find one or two fans who had completely given up hope; many said they do have confidence for Game 5.
But, now, with every game being a must-win, most fans said they hope the Pens are victorious in Game 5 so the series doesn't end and comes back to the 'Burgh.
