Excitement Builds As Pens Move To Playoffs Round 2
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The Pittsburgh Penguins are now on their way to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs and fans could not be more excited.
The team made a clean sweep of the Ottawa Senators Wednesday night by winning Game 4 with a score of 3-1.
"I hope they go all the way, sweep everybody and into the Stanley Cup," a fan said.
The Pens could now play one of four opponents, the Washington Capitals, the New York Rangers, the New Jersey Devils or the Boston Bruins.
And Penguins' fans have their various opinions.
"I'd like to see the Rangers, the local fans hatred towards Jagr," one fan told KDKA. "That would just be fun to boo him one more time before he retires."
Hockey officials have not yet said when the series will start.
Meanwhile, even though the Pens played in Ottawa Wednesday, fans gathered to cheer the team to victory right at Mellon Arena. An estimated 2,000 plus fans showed up Wednesday to watch the game on a big screen outside the arena.
"I'm glad they put up the big screen, it was a big surprise the first game, but with all these fans out here it is incredible," said one fan.
The Penguins say they plan to keep the LCD big screen up outside Mellon Arena for fans who aren't able to get their hands on tickets for the second round of the playoffs.
