Penguins Face Tough Test Against Detroit Red Wings

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Stanley Cup Finals begin four days from now in Detroit and the Pittsburgh Penguins are up against the best team in the NHL record-wise and one of the original six franchises in the NHL.

The Red Wings have a lot of history, but the Penguins are interested in writing their own history with this very young team.

The Red Wings haven't won a Stanley Cup since 2002 but they are always a team in contention. Monday night, they eliminated Dallas by getting production from every one of their four lines.

They have skilled players like Henrick Zetterberg and Johan Franzen, but they also have several experienced role players like Kris Draper, Daren McCarty and Dallas Drake.

But it's a matchup that nobody saw during the regular season. These two teams did not play each other but in this age of video technology, there is plenty of information to study.

Generally speaking, most hockey observers believe the Western Conference was superior to the East this year.

But keep this statistic in mind - the Penguins played 10 games against the West and they went 8-1-1.
