Pens-Flyers Match-Up Heats Up As Game Approaches

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The puck drops Friday evening and the Penguins are calling for another "whiteout" at Mellon Arena as they begin battle with the Philadelphia Flyers in Round 3 of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Pens say they want their fans to wear white in a show of support like they did for the first playoff game against the New York Rangers.

The team will give away white t-shirts at the game.

But before the "whiteout" and game, fans cheer on the Pens at a rally in Market Square. It begins at noon and fans are encouraged to bring their white towels and wear black and gold.

Meanwhile, local politicians are beginning to weigh in on the Pittsburgh-Philly match-up. So as the battle of the hockey teams of Pennsylvania heats up, Gov. Ed Rendell was asked to make a prediction.

"I think on talent, the Penguins are probably man for man on the roster a little more talented, but the Flyers play a great style of hockey. They do well against the Penguins," said Gov. Ed Rendell. "I think it's going to go seven games. I don't have a clue who is going to win."

Also, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato have made a wager with Philadelphia's Mayor Michael Nutter.

If the Penguins win the upcoming series, Ravenstahl and Onorato will reportedly wear Flyers jerseys and drop the puck when the two teams meet next season.

But if the Flyers win, Nutter will drop the puck while wearing a Pens jersey.
