The Pittsburgh Penguins are a victory away from their first Stanley Cup finals appearance since 1992.
Marian Hossa scored twice and the Pens grabbed a three-games-to-none lead in the Eastern Conference finals with a 4-1 verdict over the Flyers in Philadelphia. Hossa and the Penguins limited the Flyers to 18 shots, just eight in the first two periods.
The Penguins grabbed a quick 2-0 lead when Sidney Crosby set up goals by Ryan Whitney and Hossa 2:38 apart in the first eight minutes of the game. Pittsburgh native R.J. Umberger got the Flyers within a 2-1 with his 10th playoff goal later in the opening period.
But Ryan Malone and Hossa added third-period goals, with Hossa clinching it with an empty-netter.
Pittsburgh is 11-and-1 in these playoffs, losing only to the New York Rangers in the conference semifinals. The Penguins can close out the series Thursday in Philadelphia.
