'Biting' Controversy Heats Up Between Pens, Flyers

LINK: Pittsburgh Sports Insider Blog

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The Penguins may have defeated the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night in their first meeting of the season, but the game also added some new controversy to their rivalry.

The game took a bizarre turn with less than two seconds left in regulation.

Flyers captain Mike Richards catapulted himself into Pens' goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

Afterward, a scrum developed behind the net between the teams that included Pens' defenseman Kris Letang and Flyers forward Scott Hartnell.

There is no official word on what exactly happened; however; it is believed that Hartnell may have bitten down on Letang's finger.

Letang hinted at the possibility following the game. He wouldn't confirm, and instead asked reporters to ask Hartnell.

The game did end with a Penguins victory. They defeated the Flyers 5-4 on goals by Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Bill Guerin, Alex Goligoski and Tyler Kennedy.
