St. Vincent Prepares For Camp Tomlin's 2nd Year

LATROBE (KDKA) ― Steelers' Training Camp is less than two weeks away but there's a lot to do to prepare before the team arrives.

The grooming of the field is a long process, with the yard lines yet to come, but crews are doing their part to get ready for year two of Camp Tomlin.

Coach Tomlin made no adjustments in his first year, preferring to see how things went.

This year, there are still really no changes for the field or the way that the camp is set up, except for some new equipment.

While there is a business relationship between the Rooneys, the Steelers and St. Vincent College, there's more to it than that.

It's a family feel and there is concern for the family as they go through their current ownership issues.

But St. Vincent College President Jim Towey is not concerned that the team's relationship with the college will change.

"I think this is part of the formula of success for the Steelers and I think again, the Rooneys recognize that the Steelers are so important to this area and they built this franchise to what it is," said Towey. "We trust them and St. Vincent's College doesn't worry about these things because this has all taken root in the hearts of the people in this area and definitely for the people on this campus."

There's a lot to do in the next two weeks including bringing in all of the oversized beds for the players, getting the dormitories ready, unloading trucks with weight training equipment, and the cafeteria will need to be set up.

The Steelers will arrive for camp on July 27th, but fans cannot come until the 28th.

The gates will open at 1 p.m. with practice starting at 3 p.m.
