Pirates Recall Salas
Mike Vukovcan
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Out with John Van Benschoten, in with Marino Salas. A day after sending Van Benschoten back to Indianapolis, the Pirates have recalled right-handed relief pitcher Salas.
The 26-year old was very impressive in the minors posting a 2-0, 0.77 ERA, 23.1 IP and 20 K's. This will be Salas's debut in the major leagues. Salas was named the Indianapolis Indians Player of the Month for April.
The Pirates acquired Salas in a trade that sent RHP Salomon Torres to the Milwaukee Brewers on December 7, 2007.
Salas began his career in the Baltimore organization after signing as a non-drafted free agent in 1998. He pitched with the Orioles system until 2007.
The Dominican Republic native entered this season with a 27-28 record, 3.59 ERA, and 82 saves in 317 minor league appearances.
